Project Voting

For the monthly themed projects, members are invited to vote for their favourite photos using the same PollUnit system that processed the submissions.

Here are some guidelines for voting for your favourite photos…

PollUnit voting process for monthly themed projects

  1. Log on to the website and go to the Whats On calendar.
  2. Locate the entry in the calendar for the project you wish to vote for. Please note that the voting period for each project is a separate entry in the calendar. PollUnit will only accept votes during the voting period.
  3. Click on the ‘View Detail’ button to open PollUnit to vote for your favourite photos.
  4. All the photos submitted should now be visible to you in a random order. Each of you will see the photos in a different order. This is true randomisation to make the vote as fair as possible. If you are prompted for login details, click on the ‘Join as guest’ link and provide your name.
  5. Under each photo are 5 stars… click on a star to select the number you wish to award to each photo.
  6. You can vote for any number of photos you wish….. however if possible please try to vote for as many as you can. It’s good to give everyone some feedback on their photos. However, if you don’t have time, just vote for your favourites.
  7. You can award more than one photo the same number of stars. However, clearly it does not help to choose the overall winners if you give every photo a 5 star rating… some discretion is required… see the guidelines below.
  8. Be aware, there may be multiple pages of photos to vote for. When you are done… scroll to the bottom of any page and click on the ‘Save & Finish’ button to submit your vote.
  9. You will see a ‘Thank You’ page confirming your vote has been received.
  • It’s generally agreed that members should not vote for their own photos.
  • The vote will close automatically at the date and time shown. After that time, you will see a ‘Vote Closed’ page.
  • The system will count the votes automatically and present the administrator with a spreadsheet summary which will be used to determine the winners.

Voting guidelines

What merits a 5 star rating versus a 1 star rating? Here’s a general guideline to get you started,….

1 Star: The photo meets the brief and is a good attempt, but may have a basic issue… eg: out of focus, poor exposure or composition.

2 Stars: A nice photo, good focus, well exposed, but may still have an issue…. eg: wonky horizon, unbalanced composition.

3 Stars: A good photo, well photographed. Perhaps the subject / lighting / composition could have been more challenging.

4 Stars: A great photo, well thought out and executed.

5 Stars: An outstanding photo, well thought out and executed. It stands above the rest…. eg: unusual, extra effort taken, difficulty of execution.
